Have your say in the moorings review

Thanks to everyone who has emailed their support for boaters to the Council. The official period of consultation is now over - but there is still time to show your support by emailing the Executive Councillor directly - julie.smith@cambridge.gov.uk.

This is the text we suggested people send to the Council during the consultation period - but feel free to word your objections however you feel appropriate!

I am writing to object to the Council's plans to increase mooring fees for boaters. I think it is fair that single boaters pay less than couples or families living on boats, as it reflects the lower cost of providing services to single people. I think there is no need to charge wide beams any more than narrowbeam boats. Wide beam boats take up no more bank space than narrowboats, and the cost of providing services to people living on wide beams is no higher than to people living on narrowboats.

I think it is unreasonable to be reviewing the policy so frequently. Only two years ago the last moorings review agreed that the current price structure is fair and reasonable. I think you should make a commitment to keep the policy fixed for five years between reviews, so that boaters are able to plan their lives without the constant threat of price increases or losing their moorings.

I am in favour of retaining mooring for residential boats above Jesus Lock.

I am sad that there are so many vacant mooring licences on the river, despite there being a long waiting list for moorings. I believe the Council should commit to issuing licences promptly when they become available, and should be more transparent by publishing the number of current licences and the full waiting list online.

I would be grateful if my views could be taken into account by the Council when reviewing the moorings policy.

I would appreciate an acknowledgement of this email.

Thank you.
