We sell a range of solar controllers from MorningStar. These are reliable, well-proven units. The units work on pulse width modulation (PWM) - a type of charging regime that rapidly pulses the charge from the solar panels to maintain the battery voltage at a constant level. This method of charging gets maximum charge into the batteries, while preventing overcharging.
There are cheaper solar controllers on the market, which work on a simpler 'on-off' charging regime. They simply switch off the supply from the panels when the voltage reaches a set point, and reconnect it when the voltage drops again below another threshold. However, these won't maintain the charge in your batteries as well as a pulse width modulated controller, and as the price differential is not great we believe it is better not to spoil the system for the sake of saving a few pounds on the price of the controller.
